Sam has recently had something similar to an epidural to help numb and control the pain in his chest so that his lung can try to heal. His blood pressure has started to drop a bit so they are monitoring him closely. They are still unsure whether or not they will be doing surgery. 

Sam's brother Seth, who is currently serving in the military in Kuwait, has been given permission to come for two days to be with Sam. He will be arriving this week.
